Uncover the hidden world of the plants, trees, and fungi on your doorstep. Find out about ancient and modern uses- from tasty and nutritious wild edibles to traditional arts and crafts. Join us on a journey into the wonderful world of urban foraging.
On our walk we will cover:
Forager’s code- the essential safety, sustainability and legal rules to follow
Botany basics- introduction to identification
History and folklore behind our most common weeds
Introduction to a wide variety of seasonal plants, trees and fungi
Hands-on activity: either sampling pre-prepared wild food or crafting a decorative item (course dependant)
Gemma is a passionate ethnobotanist, interested in the changing relationship between people and plants over time. She has studied and worked with wild plants for food, medicine, and traditional crafts for 20 years. She has led guided walks since 2010 and forage cooking workshops since 2016. She is currently studying Botany and has certificates in food hygiene & catering, and food allergies.
All food samples are gluten and dairy free (not all are vegan). Refined sugar is not used in any samples, but natural syrups eg. agave or honey may be used. Some products contain nuts. Please contact us if you have any allergies.
Walks vary in terrain and accessibility. Please contact us first to check which course is most suitable for you.
The course will continue whatever the weather (except in electrical storms or high winds), please come prepared for outdoor activities.
